On Saturday last (12/09/15), our u10's traveled to The Moy to play in the last tournament of the year.
All clubs had to field 2 teams of 8 and in the group stages Keady were paired with:
Sean Mac Cumhaill's from Donegal,
Lissan from Derry(Paul Donnelly's club),
The Moy and Cookstown both Tyrone.
This proved to be quite a tough group with the eventual winners The Moy proving too good for everyone. However, them aside we won 4 lost 1 and drew 1 which meant we qualified for Shield. In the quarter-finals we played and beat Ardara Co. Donegal.
In the semifinals we played and beat Trillick Co. Tyrone which set up a meeting with Killeeshil Co.Tyrone. Unfortunately Killeeshil proved too strong for us on the day. These young Dwyers never gave up all day and with a panel of just the bare minimum 16 it's not surprising that they ran out of steam at the final hurdle.
Regardless of the final defeat this was a great days football for the boys. For those that have never been The Moy is the best of all the tournaments with 560 u10s from Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Donegal and as far away as Dublin and Meath playing Gaelic Football on the day.
All the boys played their part with the three u8s Woods, Loughran and McNally unfazed by their step up. Defenders on the day were Daniel Donnelly, James Mallon, Daire Harvey, Chris Traynor, Leo Callaghan, and Jack Loughran. In the middle was Aaron McGleenan, Tomás Galvin, and Sean McCooey and up front we had Tiernan Connelly, Sean McConnell, Sean Woods Conor McNally, Conor Cunningham, and Darragh Morgan.
We would appeal to all the boys to keep their heads down and train hard as they have a great wee team there and will no doubt collect plenty of silverware in the coming years!!
